The driving question for our Symposium 2017 project was, “How will human intellect adapt overtime due to the contributions of artificial intelligence?” We made a few revisions as well finally turned in our project, added some pictures with purple backgrounds, and remade the clock. We didn’t learn anything different about our topic, since we were completely done on the research part by that point, but we did learn to make everything on the board look as nice as it can be, so it doesn't look like trash when turned in. We learned that scholarly research takes effort, not just a simple google search. You have to dig deep after searching for what you need. In the art of oral presentation, we learned to not be so nervous, because after awhile, we got the hang of presenting our project. Finally, we learned that student-led research is actually quite exciting and interesting once you get results in your subject. On the collaborative process, we did well and did our parts. Something I might have done differently was do the creative piece a bit earlier. My final advice for someone interested in doing this is to understand what they are getting into. It is a huge responsibility and could stress you out. Do not, at all, think about doing it at the last minute. I still had a hard time completing stuff, even though i started weeks before the due date. Finally, if you get stressed out on the research part, just remember, once you get it over with, making the board and creative piece will be so much more fun. It’ll be all worth it.

The last time I wrote about my research, it was probably a week ago. It hasn’t been that long, and I learned that my topic is still being researched on, and that there isn’t always a definitive answer to something. I learned that I should work more with people in my period, even if they are smart. It’s better to be more connected with your partners. Our trifold background symbolizes humans and robots, and how they are clashing together. The gold stands for humans, being the dominant species, and gold is usually 1st place in races and the olympics. The silver is for robots and their metallic properties. The sculpture we made was a brain made out of motherboard pieces, because it was supposed to symbolize how robots are starting to become very advanced. The next things we need to do is just make our trifold look nicer. Collaboration has been going quite well, except for the lack of communication.

We also found out that it seems like AI is really changing how we think and live in this world. Our driving question and topic haven’t changed, we’ve had success in this specific topic. In the SLR part of our assignment, we have emailed Max Tegmark, a professor at MIT who knows a bit about AI, an interview. So far he hasn’t responded, but he hopefully will soon. What has been easy for us is finding articles to help prove our point, as well as annotating them. It may seem hard but it’s just tedious. In our next steps in completing this project, we will need to finish annotating our last articles, (7-8), as well as organizing our ISD. The ISD will be, in my opinion, the hardest part about it, but I’m sure our team can do it. And speaking about my team, collaboration is going fine. We’ve all been doing our part of the assignment and we agree on mostly everything. In conclusion, the project has been going smoothly so far. There might be bumps now and then but we’ll pass right through them.
